Quarterbacks
Start Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) in Week 2
Over: Baker Mayfield, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers
“… this is a good setup to trust Roethlisberger. He’s at home, the Seahawks have the early start time at 1 p.m. ET and Seattle just allowed Andy Dalton to pass for 418 yards and two touchdowns in Week 1 at home.” — Jamey Eisenberg, CBS Sports
“Last Sunday, the ‘Hawks were dismantled vertically by Andy Dalton and the A.J. Green-less Bengals, giving up 8.2 pass yards per attempt, 418 pass yards and a pair of passing touchdowns. CB Tre Flowers was particularly toasty, surrendering 3.09 yards per snap and a 143.9 passer rating. Rageful Big Ben investors … exhale. Your QB is set for a monster rebound. — Brad Evans, Yahoo! Sports
Start Josh Allen (BUF) in Week 2
Over: Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray, Philip Rivers
“Allen rushed 10 times for 38 yards and one score last week. That’s just part of his game and considerably raises his floor as a fantasy prospect. The 43.5-point total for Bills-Giants doesn’t jump out as a game to attack, but there’s a non-zero chance Allen finishes Week 2 as the top fantasy scorer. John Brown should also be running free most of the afternoon.” — Nick Mensio, Rotoworld
“Allen led the Bills to a win over the Jets and he wants to make it a sweep over the other team New York teams (even though Buffalo really is the only team playing in New York state) this week. PFF rates this as the fourth-best quarterback matchup in Week 2.” — Adam Rank, NFL.com
Start Derek Carr (OAK) in Week 2
Over: Kyler Murray, Matthew Stafford, Andy Dalton
“Carr used all weapons effectively, including new Raider Tyrell Williams and new starter Darren Waller. Week 2 brings a Chiefs defense that allowed a combination of Nick Foles and rookie sixth-rounder Gardner Minchew II to light them up for 350 yards and three touchdowns one week ago.” — Joshua Mutters, 5th Down Fantasy
“Watching all the QBs in Week 1, several of them were not game-ready. Meanwhile, Carr was dialed-in and ultra-focused. The Raiders offensive line dominated Denver and we all know the Chiefs are going to bring it. Carr could have a beautiful fantasy day. It’s also the highest Las Vegas total at 53.5, so look forward to a high-scoring affair.” — Mark Deming, SI.com
Sit Aaron Rodgers (GB) in Week 2
For: Drew Brees, Baker Mayfield, Matt Ryan
“The Vikings are always a tough matchup for Rodgers. He has been held below 20 points in eight of his past nine games against the Vikings and has thrown for zero or one touchdown in four of his past five healthy games against them.” — Matthew Berry, ESPN
“Rodgers returns home with extra rest, but he goes from facing the league’s toughest defense to a Minnesota one that held quarterbacks to the second-fewest fantasy points last year, and there remains a learning curve with Green Bay’s entirely new offense. He’ll be a buy-low candidate soon, but Rodgers is once again more of a QB2 option in Week 2, given the matchup.”
“Last year, in two meetings with the Vikings, Rodgers combined for 479 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, and he scored fewer than 17 Fantasy points in each outing. He’s coming off a down Fantasy performance in Week 1 at Chicago with 14 Fantasy points, and I expect him to struggle again.” — Jamey Eisenberg, CBS Sports
Sit Kyler Murray (ARI) in Week 2
For: Philip Rivers, Derek Carr, Russell Wilson
“… while 308 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception make for a good fantasy bottom line, Murray completed just 53.7% of his passes and was Week 1’s fifth-worst starting quarterback in terms of Passing NEP per drop back. He also only rushed three times for 13 yards, so his theoretical upside on the ground doesn’t appear to be something we can bank on just yet.” — Kenyatta Storin, NumberFire.com
Running Backs
Start Sony Michel (NE) in Week 2
Over: Damien Williams, Kerryon Johnson, Matt Breida
“I expect the Patriots to not only be up big here but get their ground game going again (remember, they were fifth in rushing percentage last season). And that means a lot of Sony Michel.” — Matthew Berry, ESPN
“Michel averaged 4.5 per carry in his rookie season last year. Let’s say he gets 20 carries — he had at least that many in both games versus the Dolphins last season. He needs just 5 yards per carry to hit 100 yards. If Bill Belichick goes to what we call his Jonas Gray Day game plan, figure that number is about 50 percent higher with 30 carries. Throw in a TD or two, and you have a monster fantasy day by Michel.” — Drew Loftis, NY Post
Start Devin Singletary (BUF) In Week 2
Over Devonta Freeman, Aaron Jones, James White
“Singletary made the most of his chances, turning those 4 carries into 70 rushing yards, combined with 5 receptions for another 28 yards. On the other hand, Gore was ineffective, converting his 11 touches into a mere 20 rushing yards. As one might expect from those results, Singletary boasted a pristine 100.0% Rushing Success Rate compared to Gore’s 27.3%. Singletary also saw the field significantly more, out-snapping Gore 48-19.” — Kenyatta Storin, NumberFire.com
“The Bills moved LeSean McCoy because they knew what they had in Singletary. While many expected a mind-numbing RBBC approach from Buffalo, Singletary played 70% of the RB snaps and had five receptions on six targets. Ride the rookie vs. the Giants.” — Mark Deming, SI.com
Start Duke Johnson (HOU) in Week 2
Over: Devonta Freeman, LeSean McCoy, David Montgomery
“Johnson should again play a vital role in the passing game against Jacksonville this week, and the Jaguars just allowed Damien Williams to catch six passes for 39 yards on six targets in Week 1.” — Jamey Eisenberg, CBS Sports
Sit Devonta Freeman (ATL) in Week 2
For: Matt Breida, Kerryon Johnson
“ … with Tevin Coleman leaving for San Francisco it was assumed that Freeman could be a steal in the middle rounds on his own in Atlanta. It turns out that the schedule makers (and HC Dan Quinn) had other ideas, pitting Freeman against two top 10 run defenses to start the year (MIN/PHI), and splitting his carries almost evenly with Ito Smith. Even at home, I don’t trust the Falcons to get the run game going in a game that they could easily be trailing in against an explosive Eagles offense.” — Derek McCauley, 5th Down Fantasy
“Did you know Feeman and Ito Smith each played 50% of the Falcons Week 1 RB snaps? Essentially Freeman is already in a completely even timeshare with Smith.” — Mark Deming, SI.com
Sit Aaron Jones (GB) in Week 2
For: Marlon Mack, Damien Williams, Devin Singletary
“Jones has slowed down since his hot start last season, averaging just 3.74 yards per carry over his past six games. And now he faces a Vikings run defense that, since the start of last season, is allowing the third-fewest yards per carry after first contact and just held the Falcons running backs to below 50 yards rushing … total.” — Matthew Berry, ESPN
“Jones failed to live up to his lofty expectations in Week 1 against a stout Bears defense, only putting up 4.9 fantasy points in PPR formats. Unfortunately, for Jones owners, he draws another brutal matchup in Week 2 against a Vikings defense that shut down Falcons RB Devonta Freeman.” — Frankie Taddio, SI.com
Wide Receivers
Start Tyler Lockett (SEA) in Week 2
Over: Stefon Diggs, Allen Robinson, Kenny Golladay
“Back at home, I expect the Steelers to bounce back in a big way, which means Russell Wilson will have to throw. A lot. And when he does, it will be to Lockett in the slot against a Pittsburgh squad that allowed a league-high 158 slot receptions last season.” — Matthew Berry, ESPN
“He’s battling through a back injury right now. But the Steelers defense was atrocious on Sunday night. And while you don’t want to chase fantasy points for players, you also don’t want to double-down when a team has struggled mightily. Still, I love this matchup for Lockett if he’s healthy.” — Adam Rank, NFL.com
Start John Brown (BUF) in Week 2
Over: Jarvis Landry, Jamison Crowder, Christian Kirk
“Brown is finally getting the opportunity to be a No. 1, seeing 10 targets last week and continuing to show good rapport with Josh Allen. Brown is slated to see a lot of rookie corner DeAndre Baker, who was torched and allowed the most fantasy points per pass route during his debut last week. I have Brown as a top-15 WR and a must-start in Week 2.” — Dalton Del Don, Yahoo! Sports
Start Marquise Brown (BAL) in Week 2
Over: Christian Kirk, Larry Fitzgerald, Mike Williams
“The Cardinals are still without the suspended Patrick Peterson and were lit up by Matthew Stafford for 385 and 3 touchdowns (including overtime) in Week 1. Now, they get to hit the road and face a Ravens squad that just put up 59 points and has the third-highest implied total of the week (29.75).” — Kenyatta Storin, NumberFire.com
Sit Kenny Golladay (DET) in Week 2
For: Julian Edelman, Cooper Kupp, Allen Robinson
“Matthew Stafford and the Lions’ passing attack produced 385 yards through the air in Week 1. However, it came with an asterisk due to the Cardinals’ offense pushing the pace and then increased volume when the teams went to overtime. For reference, Stafford threw 40 or more pass attempts in just four of his 16 appearances in 2018. In the same respect, Golladay saw nine targets in Arizona – a number he hit just six times last year. With fewer looks and facing a much more stout secondary, Golladay will be a touchdown-dependent play against the Chargers.” — Justin Boone, The Score
Sit Emmanuel Sanders (DEN) in Week 2
For: Mecole Hardman, John Ross
“Even within the confines of Mile High Stadium, we don’t trust Joe Flacco to score on the Bears defense (he could barely get anything done against the Raiders). Flacco’s inadequacy will limit Sanders’ upside, and a match-up with Kyle Fuller will prove to be too much to overcome.” — Derek McCauley, 5th Down Fantasy
Tight End
Start Darren Waller (OAK) in Week 2
Over Jared Cook, Vance McDonald
“Darren Waller will receive TE1 level volume, and has flashed the ability to be that caliber of player as well. Additionally, the Chiefs allowed an average of 5.4 receptions to tight ends last season, which was 5th worst in the league. I like the matchup, the player, and the opportunity in the TE friendly Raider offense.” — Jerry Lawson, Lineups.com
“Listed as a sleeper last week, Waller has graduated to the full out start ’em list. He led the Raiders in targets (8) and played 100 percent of the offensive snaps in Week 1, so he’s locked and loaded as a prominent member of the Raiders offense. At what can be a thin position, Waller should be added and started for owners in need.” — Michael Fabiano, NFL.com.
Mark Andrews (BAL) in Week 2
Over Darren Weller, Vance McDonald
“Andrews is set up for another big game facing a Cardinals defense that was lit up by the tight end position last week, but if you’re looking for a flex option in deeper formats, Edwards is a possible flier. He led Baltimore’s backfield in carries (17) last week, could face a similar game script this week as big favorites (and with Mark Ingram banged up), and is facing an Arizona front seven that was gashed for the most fantasy points by running backs last season.” — Dalton Del Don, Yahoo! Sports
Sit David Njoku (CLE) in Week 2
For Jared Cook, Austin Hooper
“The Jets allowed the fewest catches to tight ends in 2018 and handled Bills TEs Tommy Sweeney and Dawson Knox with relative ease last Sunday. Njoku owners will again be chasing a mere touchdown this week as he battles with the Jets’ stud safety duo of Marcus Maye and Jamal Adams.” — Nick Mensio, Rotoworld
D/ST
Start Houston Texans in Week 2
Over Dallas, Denver
“It is always a gamble to start a defense against an unproven quarterback, but for the most part, the gamble pays off dividends. I expect a few sacks, one or two interceptions, and low yardage for the Jacksonville Jaguars.” — Mike Kremer, 5th Down Fantasy
Start New England Patriots in Week 2
Over everyone
“Not historically a fantasy juggernaut, this defensive unit shined against a formidable offensive threat in the Steelers on Sunday night. New England already looks poised for a Super Bowl run. Miami, on the other hand, appears to be vying for a top draft pick in 2020. It is difficult to envision a scenario in which they score a ton of points.” — Samantha Previte, NY Post.
Sit New Orleans Saints in Week 2
For Giants, Colts
“They may have gotten their sacks on Watson (who hasn’t?), but they failed their team where it matters most; on the scoreboard. I look for this team to go on the road to LA and run into a Rams buzz saw that’s a different offense at home.” — Derek McCauley, 5th Down Fantasy
Kickers
Start Robbie Gould (SF) in Week 2
Over Brett Maher, Matt Prater
“Gould continues to be a valuable asset for fantasy owners (even more so when Jimmy Garoppolo is the quarterback), as he produced 12 points in an opening win in Tampa Bay. I’d continue to ride with the veteran booter in another roadie, this one against the Bengals. Their defense allowed almost nine points a game to visiting kickers in 2018.” — Michael Fabiano, NFL.com.
Sit Jason Sanders (MIA) in Week 2
For Mason Crosby, Austin Seibert
“Jason Sanders of the Miami Dolphins is in a sad place. He’s a good player, but he’s playing for a terrible offense. In Week 2, they’re up against the Patriots that could pitch a shutout without blinking. Avoid Sanders while the Dolphins offense sorts out the mess that they have on that side of the ball.” — Gage Bridgford, RotoBaller.com
