Week 4 had to be the MVP week for quarterback streaming options. If you played guys like Geno Smith, Jared Goff, or even Cooper Rush, you no doubt were satisfied with the outcome. Can we continue to count on these guys? Who knows? But I’ll certainly be looking their way in favorable matchups.
Now, though, it is time to look to the future. Injuries are piling up, bye weeks are fast approaching, or you may just have guys like Matthew Stafford who can’t seem to put it together. Therefore it’s time to make the tough decisions. Should I continue with what I have, or should I look to stream this week? If so, look to the following options for streaming quarterbacks and defenses in Week 5.
Week 5 streaming quarterbacks
Jared Goff (DET)
Who would have thought that Goff would score nearly 40 fantasy points this past Sunday? He did play the Seahawks, but he was down two of his major weapons. With D’Andre Swift and Amon Ra St Brown out of the lineup, I personally was avoiding him. He proved that he may just be a good quarterback by NFL and Fantasy Football standards.
This week Goff gets the opportunity to feast on a lackluster New England Patriots defense. The Patriots’ D/ST is giving up an average of 23.5 fantasy points per game to the quarterback position according to The Football Database. That bodes well for Goff going into a matchup that should be winnable for this Detroit team.

Jameis Winston or Andy Dalton (NO)
I cannot foresee who will start for the Saints this upcoming week, but I can foresee a great game for whichever quarterback is behind center. The Saints get to play a Seahawks defense that just gave up 378 yards and 4 touchdowns to the above-mentioned Goff. Seattle is also giving up an average of 24.5 Fantasy Points Per Game according to The Football Database.
No matter which quarterback is under center they most certainly can have a great outing against this defense. Look to put them in your lineup this week. Feel free to start the healthy receiving options for the Saints as well.
Teddy Bridgewater (MIA)
Teddy Bridgewater is a more than competent NFL quarterback. It’s not the most exciting quarterback play you will see, but he gets the job done. Plus, he has amazing options to throw the ball to. Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle alone will make Teddy look good.
The Jets’ defense looks improved, but they will have no answer for those speedy wide receiving options. They are also giving up over 20 points per game to the quarterback position. Teddy is not at the top of my list, but if you need a spot start, look to Bridgewater this week if the above options are not available.
Week 5 streaming defenses
Miami D/ST
Now to the other side of the ball. Miami’s defense is a must-start against the gun-slinging cougar hunter himself Zach Wilson. His gun-slinging nature makes for some amazing plays, but it also opens him up to plenty of mistakes.
Miami still has great cornerback play and can show up in favorable matchups. This should be a matchup that allows this defense to have a great fantasy week in your lineup.
Jaguars D/ST
The Jaguars get to play my lowly hometown Texans. Davis Mills has shown some promise, but he’s young and makes costly mistakes. The Jags’ defense has played surprisingly well this season with better coaching.
Mills threw two interceptions last week and currently has four on the season. Look for the Jags to add to that list this coming week.
49ers D/ST
I just found the 49ers defense of two of my waiver wires. They had an absolutely dominant week against the Superbowl champion Rams, and now they get to exploit Baker Mayfield and the Panthers’ Offense.
The Cardinals had a great showing against this team last week, and the 49ers are a much better defense. If they happen to still be available on your waiver wire go pick them up right away.
